The Yardwork Begins

This weekend we finally turned our attention outside, and the weather could not have been more perfect. After months of focusing on the inside of Pauline Manor, it felt amazing to spend a few days in the sunshine getting our hands dirty and making real progress in the yard.

We planted a peach tree, a lemon tree, three blueberry bushes, a blackberry bush, and ten strawberry plants. I also tucked in all of the seedlings I started a few weeks ago, which felt like a full-circle moment after watching them sprout in little trays by the window. Seeing green things take root here for the first time made the whole place feel more alive.

We also added a few more pickets to the privacy fence and started the long process of cleaning out the greenhouse. That space has so much potential, but right now it’s a mix of dirt, cobwebs, and old tools that need sorting. Even so, it’s easy to picture what it will become once it’s cleared out and ready for the next season’s plants.

We’ve now spent two nights in the house, and I’m still a little in awe that we’re here. There’s a mountain of work left to do, but looking around, it’s incredible how much has changed in just ninety days since we closed on Pauline Manor. The pets have settled in, the kitties are thrilled with all the extra space, and it’s finally starting to feel like home.

I’m endlessly thankful for the family and friends who’ve helped us every step of the way. From digging holes and hauling plants to showing up with cold drinks and snacks, we couldn’t have done it without you. This old house is a lot of work, but with help like that, it’s the best kind of adventure.

Welcome to Pauline Manor! We’re Mike and Lynsey, and together with our herd of six dachshunds, we’re building a life we love at our 1908 Victorian farmhouse in Northwest Florida. What started as restoring an old house has grown into a microbakery, gardens, beehives, a greenhouse, home apothecary, and more projects than we ever planned. If you love making things from scratch but still appreciate Walmart delivery, you’re in the right place. Around here, we’re all about learning new skills, embracing old traditions, and finding a little more whimsy in everyday life.
