Removing Mortar From Hardwood Floors

Today’s PSA: Please do not ever ever ever put mortar and tile DIRECTLY on hardwood 😖 There have been so many times we have just asked “why” with this house… and today was another one of those days.

When we purchased the house the upstairs was almost completely tiled, but we didn’t like it and began removing it immediately, delighted to find the gorgeous original hardwood underneath. WHY anyone would cover (and also not protect) this wood… I have no idea.

Unfortunately, the wood is not in great shape in all of the rooms, but in this little bedroom we’ve lovingly nicknamed “Narnia” because of a massive wardrobe that the last family left (because it easily weighs 500 pounds) has absolutely gorgeous wood that was properly sealed… so the mortar is easily removed with warm water and some elbow grease. 🧽💪🏻

We worked for hours on the floors, set up the bed, and got about halfway through setting up the room before running out of steam. 😮‍💨

Last week while I was in Vegas I saw a wall display that will be PERFECT for this space, and I am excited to start collecting the pieces for it. With the exception of this wall, my goal is to have this room complete by the end of January and then move to complete the final bedroom upstairs. After that… the greenhouse 🌱

It’s coming together ✨
