Downstairs Baseboards Finished!

We have officially made it to the baseboards 🙌🏻 We’ve almost completed the downstairs and I could not be more thrilled. We have chosen to put off restoring the floors until we live there full time, but most everything else is move-in ready on the first floor.

Today we removed all of the furniture from the dining room that the old homeowners left behind and finished installing the baseboards in the foyer, living room, and dining room. The old owners just used 1×6 for baseboards and I actually loved it, so we just finished the house matching what they had left. Eventually, I’ll paint it all white to match the crown molding, but for now, I really love the natural look.

The Besties came over last night and did the first pass over the floors with a damp mop. The sheetrock dust was everywhere and it will need several more moppings before it is “clean” – but the first pass made a huge difference. The white “stripes” on the floor are from where we mopped around wood pieces in the floor lol huge difference.

There are mixed opinions on how to clean 115-year-old hardwood floors… (feels worse than nutrition advice 🙄) but we are going to test small areas and just do the best we can. This room had glued-down laminate flooring and is in the worst shape but I’m determined to salvage as much of the floor as I can.

It’s 7:15pm on Saturday night and Mike is sound asleep on the couch and I just got into bed under my electric blanket. 😂 It’s a wild night around here. Two long days of moving and working on the house has us both worn out but we couldn’t be happier. ♥️ Happy Saturday friends.

We’re Mike and Lynsey Kmetz, a couple with five dachshunds and one very big project — restoring a 1908 Victorian we found on Zillow that’s now Pauline Manor. Nestled in Cantonment, FL, it’s where a micro-bakery, garden, and slow-steading lifestyle meet thrifted charm and a whole lot of heart. We’re keeping history alive—one loaf, petal, and project at a time.
